Ok yous guys…And then, I made these costumes two years ago, but I accept had some requests for a DIY.

It is still early September simply when you are making Halloween costumes, peculiarly for the whole family unit, the more time the better!

Although I didn't take pace by stride pictures as I went, I did pull them from the costume box and take attempted (ha ha notice that word) to explain how I made them.

Read the tutorials later on the jump

Ok let me preface this with saying, I am not a seamstress so my sewing "terms" and explinations might exist crazy ha ha.  So if anyone has ANY questions I volition be sure to respond and answer them all!

First is Max's costume…

Crafts

I actually got the tutorial from THIS You lot Tube video.   This video is Crawly, especially for the non sewer like myself. Merely I wasn't a fan of how cheep it looked then I changed some things upwardly and I'll share them here.

First and foremost is the fabric!  I recollect this is key.  I got a super soft fluffy cloth.  I don't remember the name (since I am just doing this tutorial now and I made these over 2 years agone) but I thought it looked exactly how I pictured Max'southward outfit to await.

Crafts

 The crown:

I got two pieces of white foam sheets (from Michaels).  Depending on the size of your child'due south caput you might need both.  I cut out a crown shape, measured information technology on my son'southward head and so spray painted it gilded.  Sew the ends together and brand certain to leave a proficient amount at the bottom of the crown, because yous will sew together on a strip of fur.

Crafts

The tail and the fur on the crown should match.  I wanted my tail to be more full.  I measured where I wanted the tail and how long I wanted it to be to the ground.  Cut out both pieces (bowing out a lot in the middle), sew them together (correct sides in), turned it right side out and then hand stitched it onto the back.  (No stuffing inside)

Crafts

I wanted the toes to exist more than of a neutral color and so I used some muslim cloth.  Simply they are simply like the tutorial on the video.

Crafts

ha ha nil fancy here every bit you lot tin see on the backside

Crafts

Whiskers:

I used a thin wire which I found at Michael's in the jewelry section.  They went through the fabric super easy and I simply tied a niggling knot with the end so they didn't fall out.  I would run up them a petty likewise, to be safe.

 Our Monster Costumes:

I constitute this fabled fir/ hair like fabric from Jo Ann's.  The legs where fabricated from flannel textile.  It is thinner than felt and easier to cutting and sew.

Crafts

I took a maxi tank dress I had, and used that equally my blueprint.  I cut out from the clothes a few inches and made sure it got nice and wide at the lesser.  Brand certain it ends by your shins.  Cut upward a little in the middle and sew some leg holes.  They don't need to be finished because you will sew and attach the plumage legs.

Crafts

Make a cut down the dorsum and sew on velcro.

Crafts

This part is pretty tedious, but looks and so awesome.  I measured a piece of flannel around my dogie, to find the widest part.  The finished piece was about 6 inches high and xiii inches broad.  Cutting out a bunch of rectangle pieces in the correct size, and in alternating colors.   So cutting each piece in a jagged pattern, leaving a strip at the peak to sew onto the other pieces  Y'all are going to want the legs to be a piddling loose, and leave room for the velcro every bit well.
All things to have into account when measuring the width.

Crafts

Run up them together.  Simply brand sure that the color you sew together on top has the jagged points alternating and so you get that plumage like look.

Once you take fabricated the legs long plenty (you are going to desire them to exist long, roofing your anxiety) you are ready to run up them onto the leg holes.

Crafts

 Attach some velcro

Crafts

Make some monster feet similar you did for Max.  Tutorial is on the video.
Also, I sprayed my hair with a red hair halloween hair spray :)

At present onto my husbands costume…

Crafts

Nosotros found some grey sweatpants at the thrift store… Or you can find some HERE , Here or HERE.   Cutting out small Five shaped cuts.  Make SURE you don't cut them too close or y'all will only take a big hole.  And they will need to habiliment something grey or blackness underneath ha ha.

Crafts

Crafts

The tail is the aforementioned as Max's tail but MUCH longer.  I simply measured how long I wanted it when my husband tried on the pants.

Crafts

I bought a white classic long sleeve.  Bought some yellowish Rite Dye and dyed it yellow.  And so taped off the shirt and used some burt orange acrylic pigment to brand the stripes.  If you are NOT into DIYing this here are a few shirts yous could utilise… HERE and Here (although they are short sleeve)

Crafts

Ok yous guys this was by FAR the hardest part of all the costumes ha ha.  I gratis manus made this crazy head and it didn't plough out exactly how I pictured it, and was a piddling odd shaped.  BUT I recommend getting a caput pattern from an adult halloween costume (maybe Joann's?).  My other tip is to brand sure y'all don't make the horns too big or they will exist all floppy.  And you desire them to stand upwards.

Crafts

Monster feet the same every bit the Max tutorial.

Good LUCK!!!  This has been i of my favorite costumes, still.
